South Africa is a land with a rich history, demanding terrain and spectacular resources. 1859 stretches from Cape Town through the Orange Free State to Johannesburg and beyond to Rhodesia. Tokens are non-blocking but do extract a cost for passage. The later discovery of Diamond mines in Kimberley affect the play, as does the even later discovery of extensive Gold deposits in the Transvaal. The game requires the usage of the hex track tiles and play money found in Avalon-Hill’s 1830. New Little Companies are provided. 1859 lasts from 2-4 hours and is for 3-5 players. This is not a game for beginners. Most money wins the game.
